Álvaro Rodrigo Aroca Córdova,1979, Temuco - Chile.
Aroca ha desarrollado una práctica artística y crítica centrada en los cruces entre arte contemporáneo, ecología política, pensamiento indígena y filosofía decolonial. Sus obras —en formatos como instalación, performance, arte textil y video— articulan procesos sensibles de memoria y afectividad en territorios marcados por los procesos históricos y las transformaciones socio-ambientales. Su trabajo parte de un enfoque biocéntrico, reconociendo saberes ancestrales y relaciones ecológicas como formas válidas de conocimiento. Desde esta mirada, busca crear espacios para imaginar futuros más justos y sensibles desde lo artístico, político y territorial. En su trabajo previo de Máster y doctorado en la EHU/UPV en Bilbao (España) contextualiza otros caminos para enfrentar lo que nos rodea y nuestra construcción política del cuerpo, mediante la performance, disciplina que cruza transversalmente su práctica. Para llevar a cabo esta producción, ha desarrollado exposiciones individuales y colectivas en Chile, Francia, Republica Checa, Argentina, Estados Unidos, España, Mexico, Portugal, Países Bajos y Corea del Sur. La investigación es parte esencial de su trabajo, mediante residencias artísticas en Open Atelier Zuidoost Foundation Rochdale (Amsterdam), Consorcio de Museos de Valencia (Chile/España), Espacio Réflex (País Vasco) y el Centrum Beeldende Kunst Zuidoost en conjunto con el Stedelijk Museo, además, de ser parte de la Geumgang Nature Art Biennale 2022 (Corea del Sur), entre otras. En 2023 y 2025 lo llevan a Bilbao y Ámsterdam, en la WM Gallery. Ha participado en la última feria JustX Lisboa 2023. A finales del 2023, obtiene el 2º lugar en el Salón de Videoarte Textil en el Centro Argentino de Arte Textil en Buenos Aires. En 2024 participa en la feria de arte JustLatam con la performance "La sensibilidad del origen" en Casa de América. En 2025 finaliza su beca de investigación y creación Culture Moves Europe, Goethe Institut y expone en el Museo Marítimo de Bilbao. En 2026 expone junto al Festival Internacional de Performances Mínimas Urbanas en Sala Rekalde de Bilbao.

Aroca has developed an artistic and critical practice focused on the intersections of contemporary art, political ecology, Indigenous thought, and decolonial philosophy. Working across installation, performance, textile art, and video, his practice explores processes of memory, affect, and territorial belonging within landscapes shaped by historical processes and socio-environmental transformations. Grounded in a biocentric perspective, his work recognizes ancestral knowledge systems and ecological relationships as valid forms of understanding. Through this lens, he creates spaces for imagining more just and sensitive futures from artistic, political, and territorial perspectives. His Master's and doctoral research at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Bilbao, Spain, explored alternative ways of engaging with our surroundings and the political construction of the body through performance, a discipline that continues to inform his practice across different media.
Aroca has presented solo and group exhibitions in Chile, France, the Czech Republic, Argentina, the United States, Spain, Mexico, Portugal, the Netherlands, and South Korea. Research remains a fundamental aspect of his work, developed through artist residencies and collaborative programs at Open Atelier Zuidoost Foundation Rochdale (Amsterdam), the Consortium of Museums of Valencia (Chile/Spain), Espacio Réflex (Basque Country), and Centrum Beeldende Kunst Zuidoost in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum, among others. He also participated in the Geumgang Nature Art Biennale 2022 in South Korea.
In 2023 and 2025, his work was exhibited in Bilbao and Amsterdam at WM Gallery. He participated in the international art fair JUSTLX Lisboa 2023 and was awarded Second Prize at the 2023 Textile Video Art Salon at the Argentine Textile Art Centre in Buenos Aires.
In 2024, he presented the performance The Sensitivity of Origin at the JUSTLATAM Art Fair, hosted at Casa de América in Madrid. In 2025, he completed a Culture Moves Europe research and creation grant supported by the Goethe-Institut and exhibited at the Bilbao Maritime Museum. In 2026, he participated in the International Festival of Minimal Urban Performances at Sala Rekalde, Bilbao.
